A. Welded Steel Construction

All file cabinets have welded case construction and top corners for superior, durable strength and smooth appearance.

B. Follower Block

All models include either a spring-loaded follower block or wire follower to ensure that the files stay upright. Spring-loaded follower blocks are more substantial than wire follower blocks, and are adjustable on 5/8” spacing.

C. Nylon Roller Cradle Suspension

Vertical file cabinets use either cradle or steel ball-bearing suspension.

Ball-bearing Slide Suspension– A three-part telescoping “slide” suspension supports the files. Durable ball-bearings roll with the file for smooth operation and full extension (Series 210 and 310).

Cradle Suspension – The file sits on-top of the file with a base of triple or double ties.  There are 10 Nylon rollers per drawer, used as guides to allow for smooth operation and full cabinet extension.

D. Sizes Available

HON vertical file cabinets vary in number of drawers, letter or legal size widths and depth of drawers

E. Core Removable Lock

Most file cabinets models have factory-installed locks, while some models are sold without locks.  All non-locking HON models have knockouts and lock bars provided for field installable lock kits. The lock bar is already assembled within the case, and only the lock is needed.

HON locks are cylinder locks with removable cores, allowing offices to use a single key for multiple file cabinets.  Keyed-alike cores must be ordered separately.

Locks are standard on Series 210, 310, 410 and 510.  They are optional on Series H320, 500, 530, and may be ordered separately.

F. Four Vertical Uprights

Provides the strength necessary for long-term use.

G. Drawer and Shelf Options and Descriptions

Hanging files are bars on the top of the file, which hang on high sides or hangrails.  Files with high sides are usually recommended for these types of files; however one may use a low-side file drawer with the purchase and easy installation of hangrails. Hangrails fit from the front to back of the drawer to allow for hanging files.

High drawer sides are standard on Series 210, 310, 410 and 510.  The 500 and 530 Series can accept hanging files with the addition of hangrails.

H. Hardware

All vertical file cabinets have aluminum pulls, thumb latches and label holders.

I. Commercial Grade Construction and Environmental Sustainability

All file cabinets have welded case construction and top corners for superior strength and smooth appearance.

All HON file cabinets meet or exceed ANSI/BIFMA & ISTA testing standards.  ANSI/BIFMA is the American National Standards institute / Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association.

The types of tests employed on vertical file cabinets fall into the following general categories:

a) static load applications;
b) dynamic load applications;
c) endurance or durability cycling tests.

ISTA is the International Safe Transit Association, which sets standards and tests for packaging durability during transportation to improve the likelihood that products arrive in good condition.

HON meets BIFMA Environmental Sustainability Guidelines in file cabinet construction.  For more information on office furniture manufacturing sustainability, go to http://www.bifma.com/documents/SusGdlines.pdf.

J. Highly Durable Painting System

All HON file cabinets are manufactured with tough, baked enamel over rust-inhibiting phosphate pre-treatment to provide a durable finish and prevent rust.
